"I'm not a singer—but I love it."

One airport ride turned into a story about connection, loneliness, and a sparkly pink microphone.

I first met Len as a passenger.

On a ride home from SFO, I stepped into a car lined with bright yellow karaoke signs, giant red lettering, and a headshot of Anita Bryant clipped to the visor. I had questions. The answers revealed something much more meaningful than karaoke: at 90 years old, Len was driving not just for income, but for connection.

Len wasn't driving for income alone. Driving Lyft gave him purpose, community, and connection at a stage of life when many people experience isolation. I knew his story deserved to be told, but I waited for the right moment. When Lyft launched Favorite Driver, Len's story became a powerful reminder that transportation is about more than getting people from point A to point B—it's about human connection.

Outcome

What began as a memorable ride home evolved into one of Lyft's most beloved driver stories, generating nearly 800K views across social and culminating in Len meeting the entire company—and even singing karaoke with Lyft's CEO. Sometimes the best stories aren't the ones you go looking for. They're the ones you hold onto until the right moment arrives to tell them.
