Behind the pedals
An under-the-hood look at the team and city that helped shape Astro, Lyft's newest bikeshare bike.
When Lyft Urban Solutions introduced the Astro bike, the goal wasn't just to showcase a new product—it was to spotlight the people who built it.
Filmed over three days in San Francisco, this under-the-hood video followed the designers and engineers responsible for developing Lyft's next-generation electric bikeshare bike. The project highlighted both the Astro itself and the unique role San Francisco plays as a living laboratory for urban mobility, where steep hills, dense neighborhoods, and daily riders constantly push products to improve.

The project continued a behind-the-scenes video series for Lyft Urban Solutions, building on earlier launches like Pillar to showcase the people behind the technology.
Working with a lean crew and limited budget, we turned engineers into on-camera talent, captured riders throughout the city, and even strapped our cinematographer to the back of a cargo bike to get many of the film's moving shots. The production was designed to maximize every shoot day, creating a library of video and photography assets that could support future content, newsletters, social channels, and broader communications efforts.
